Follow the adventures of four young men caught up in the extreme politics of late 16th century Scotland, when King James VI (and later to be James I of England, the so-called ‘wisest fool in Christendom’) played out a masterly solo game of chess, using the Riding Names of the West March as pieces, in preparation for his final solution to the problems of the Anglo-Scottish Border.

Bill Johnston is a Scot who moved to the North of England in the mid-1960's.  Originally a Dance Band and Pipe Band drummer, he took up the accordion for pleasure some years ago, often being persuaded to play for visitors or at parties. However, the 'box' now comes out on a more regular basis for gigs, mainly around the North.

With a wide variety of styles, he can provide entertainment for virtually any occasion, e.g. dances, weddings, corporate functions, private parties, barn dances and balls.

Bill's repertoire includes many types of music: ballroom, popular sequence, ceilidh, modern, 'old time', Scottish, Irish, Latin American, jazz, country and Rock 'n' Roll.

Bill can be contacted on 015395 60581 or perhaps you would like to visit his website at www.billjohnston.org.

The ideal band for a party night...excellent musicians and they're Johnstons, too!

Published by Sleeping Bear Press of Michigan, Eve Begley Kiehm's (née Johnstone) new book is called "B is for Bagpipes", A Scotland Alphabet".

Clan member Eve writes:

'Written for children (and discriminating adults) "B is for Bagpipes" is full of information, history and beautiful illustrations by Edinburgh artist Alexa Rutherford. Ms. Rutherford has captured the essence of Scotland in her creative pictures and the writer has endeavored to give a remarkable amount of interesting information on subjects chosen to illustrate the appropriate letters. For example, E is for Edinburgh gives an overview of the city's architecture, festival and history; H is (of course) for Haggis and tells of its popularity in Scotland and the role it plays in the annual Burns' Suppers. K is for Kilt and the artist has painted a fine picture of a kilted Scot with small side drawings of all the kilt's accessories. What would "L" be? None other than Loch Ness Monster! M is for Mary, Queen of Scots and P and Q tell of ancient people (the Picts) and ancient cups (quaichs) while T is naturally for Tartan. Every letter has a rhymed verse as well as two to three paragraphs of interesting information about Scotland's history, beauty, literature, wildlife and traditions. For example:
N is for Nature, that nurtures the Scot,
A daily reminder of what she has got.
The lochs and the glens, the deer on the hill
Scots canna forget and indeed never will.

"B is for Bagpipes" is a large format picture book suitable for readers from nine to ninety+ and is available on Amazon.com who will ship it to you. Cost of each book is $17.95. You may also check the website -www.discovertheworldbooks.com .'
